Timing and balance-shaft belts
The single most important 944 maintenance item — deferring it risks major engine damage. We keep it on a strict schedule, tell you exactly where your car stands, and do the water pump and rollers while the front of the engine is already open so you are not paying twice for the same labor.
Brittle plastic in the cooling system
The 944's coolant necks and housings are plastic, and heat cycles make them brittle rather than leaky — they tend to let go all at once. We replace the aging group together instead of chasing one weep at a time, because the next one is usually already on its way.
Torque tube, clutch, and transaxle
Drive reaches the rear transaxle through a torque tube, and its bearings announce themselves as a drone or a vibration long before they strand anybody. We check them whenever the clutch is out, so the two jobs happen once rather than twice.
A Turbo and an S2 are not a base 944
The 16-valve S2 and the Turbo ask different things of the cooling system, the drivetrain, and the diagnosis than a base car does. Tell us which one you have and we plan the work for that car rather than for the model line.

Is the 944 timing belt really that critical?
Yes — it's the classic 944 gotcha. We replace it on schedule and typically do the water pump and rollers at the same time while everything's apart, so you're not paying twice for the same labor.
Do you work on Turbos and S2s as well as base cars?
Yes. Base 944s, 16-valve S2s, and Turbos all come through the shop, and we plan the work around which one you actually have rather than around the model line.
Can you inspect a 944 before I buy it?
Yes — a pre-purchase inspection is one of the highest-value things we do. The car goes on the lift, gets scanned and road-tested, and you get a written summary with prioritized concerns so you negotiate from knowledge instead of hope.
